Oomf’s Infinite Watchlist: a thread
Last week I decided that I would start watching a random movie from my watchlist everyday. I have like 120 movies on my watchlist, and recs are always welcome.
I’ve been using a random number generator to watch a different movie every day, and here’s what I’ve seen so far:
Still Alice:
- Honestly I don’t think Julianne Moore’s performance is that good… like it’s borderline bad
- It made me want to go to an Ivy League school
- Scary bc Alzheimer’s runs in my family https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😶" title="Face without mouth" aria-label="Emoji: Face without mouth">
Paradise Hills:
- Heard about it cause it was at Sundance last year
- Awkwafina, Emma Roberts, and good aesthetics are the only reasons it’s borderline good
- Story is totally, definitely been done before, afraid to reference or not reference
12 Years a Slave:
- Horrifying. Needed to be seen but still one of the hardest movies I’ve ever watched
- Good performances all around
- Tired of film academics only ever praising predominantly black movies when it’s about black trauma
Boys Don’t Cry:
- My favorite movie of the ones I’ve seen (Chloe Sevigny please come fuck me)
- Also really fucked up… and it’s def not as woke as it used to be
- It left me thinking about the movie for like the whole day I’ve seen it
Ralph Breaks the Internet:
- A good break from all the heavy shit I’ve been watching
- Not as good as the first one, but it’d was still pretty good
- Very heartwarming and funny
The Handmaiden:
- Foreign movies hit different… like finally, an original screenplay
- I had no idea what was going to happen and that was in the film’s favor
- Really one of the most original movies I’ve seen in a minute
Frances Ha:
- Noah Baumbach loves to make movies about white people being alive
- I’ve never been so emotionally invested in a movie about nothing
- Greta Gerwig
Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019)
- Very cute and sad and it makes me wanna be in love
- Very subtle in presenting itself as a period piece which I think is fab
- Good acting, and once again, foreign films hit
The Brand New Testament (2015)
- Really cute and funny
- Gave me The Good Place vibes bc it’s also pretty philosophical
- “Why does the bird stay here if he can go anywhere he wants?” “He asks the same to you” https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😳" title="Flushed face" aria-label="Emoji: Flushed face">
Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001)
- Big 90s MTV vibes
- Good Music
- Tired of the trope of trans identity being invalidated to ground the protagonist
The Half of It (2020)
- Gay
- Really basic and formulaic but that’s what I expected going into it
- Hot man himbo idc idc (but I watched it with my sister and I’m closeted it to her how sick is that)
Waves (2019)
- I’m mad this doesn’t have more hype behind it… it deserves like Moonlgoht levels of Hype
-Best movie I’ve watched so far of all these… really interesting film structure
- Possibly my new favorite movie with a cishet male lead (if you can call him the lead)
Leon: The Professional (1994)
- Bjork was in the soundtrack I was so happy
- Natalie Portman is the youngest Manic Pixie Dream Girl
- Good performances, good story, good movie I would watch again… but it was like kinda p*do vibes bc a 12 year old was chasing after a full adult
Love, Simon (2018)
- Cute and it’s fun to see representation of yourself on a screen so I’m not mad
- I liked it but I don’t like how Hollywood can only be progressive in one area at a time… like gay but make it as a palatable a possible
- it’s exploitative :/
At Eternity’s Gate (2018)
- I probably wouldn’t take the time to watch it again but it was still pretty good
- It was a little pretentious like I almost laughed at some of the montage footage
- Willem Dafoe CARRIED
- One of my favorites if we were basing it just off visuals
Psycho (1960)
- It was such a good movie in terms of the technical aspect
- Good camerawork, gold score, great story
- I liked it but I already knew the spoiler somehow so I didn’t like eat it up
A Cure for Wellness (2017)
- Paradise Hills but better, but still not that good
- Visuals are the saving grace of this movie
- It’s actually pretty scary I’ll give it that
- It was too long I lost interest in the last half hour
- Too many ideas explored in one movie, ambitious
The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)
- Wow you know a movie is good when it makes you want to kill yourself
- It made me want to be straight really badly
- Loved that movie it is now one of my favorites
- Beautiful story
-it really made me want to be worried for
Actually almost k worded myself after watching this movie and deleted twitter… lemme continue this thread
