As the first born child to an immigrant family I had to do everything the hard way. I had to fill out my own FAFSA, find out what the MCAT was on my own, learn how to study on my own. The only reason I accomplished anything was through the help of friends and classmates.
I thank God everyday for the people who were in the class above me who helped me out. Who helped me get my first shadowing experiences. Who told me what classes to take. Who told me when I should take my exams and how to write my personal statement.
They never charged me shit. They helped me because they were in the same situation as me. Coming from a family whose second language was English. Who didn't have the money to spend on fancy test prep classes. And I do the same for the people who are younger than me.
We all help each other out because it's what you do. You help the people out because you know how hard it is to survive when your entire family isn't full of doctors and barely knows english. You become a physician to help others and you help others on your entire journey there.
This bullshit of lying about your grades, how you got into medical school, and then having the audacity to charge people for your advice that isn't even that great is ridiculous. These people are not here to help others. They are not here to be physicians for the right reasons.
If you truly want to help others in the spirit of medicine you will not charge people for giving advice and you will certainly NOT lie about how you got where you are. Please watch out for these instagram influencers who are obviously scamming you. You should never pay for advice
It is really our job to call these people out. Sitting there and letting them scam people while we know the truth is ALMOST as bad as being the person doing the scamming. Please let your friends know that these people are not truthful.
