Van De Beek – Why he is the next CM a top team should go for – a thread⬇️
Van De Sar, Ajax’s Chief Executive, has come out and said that Donny Van De Beek is free to leave. Linked with United, Spurs and Real Madrid, he is a midfielder that will improve almost every midfield in the world. A big move beckons and here’s why.
Career

Coming through the famed youth academy from 2014 onwards, he has been well educated in the Ajax style of football which is so famous. Improving year on year, his breakout year was that 18/19 season where they won so many fans over with their particular brand of football.
Stats

At Ajax we’ve seen him produce good numbers from central midfield, with 40 goals & 34 assists since 2016. Albeit in a weaker league, his champions league performances have been very good. This year he was on 10G & 11A, well on his way to beating his other tallies.
Style of Play

A box-to-box midfielder usually, he offers versatility. He offers a goal threat often has elusive movement to get into goalscoring areas. He can be described as a player who plays multiple roles – box to box is perhaps an oversimplification.
Barney Ronay (Guardian Journalist) quoted ‘“Van de Beek has been schooled to occupy an interchangeable role, a roaming nine and half, a 10 and a quarter, in a team full of half-players, dual roles, footballers leaning across to fill two spaces.”
Positioning

He very much operates with a free role, allowing him to play all over the pitch. He has a tremendous work rate and a real appetite to press high & be involved in the game. Offering support at both ends, he makes 2 tackles a game – 4th highest in the Ajax squad.
vs Chelsea

Against my team in the CL, he passed the eye test as he showed a maturity on the ball & was extremely hard to press. Often moved the ball very quickly causing problems. He's a key player - he has played an average of 86% of the total minutes possible across all comps
Ability

His uniqueness comes from knowing when to push forward or sit, as he has had to adapt to a deeper role this year due to De Jong’s departure. His willingness to get forward at the right times is outlined by his stats, 6.26 touches in the opposition box per 90.
Goals

Playing in a more advanced role last year, his expected goals have dropped from 16 to 9 as most of his opportunities have come from outside the box. His conversion rate was 20% which dropped to 14% this year. https://twitter.com/AsistAnaliz/status/1196406849400135681
His goals come from making very smart runs as seen in the goals against Chelsea and Spurs last season in the CL. He is a smart finisher & goals from midfield is an important aspect for any team which only adds value to the player.
Assists

With a high number of assists, he manages 0.61 goals or assists per 90 from central midfield. In his stellar year in 18/19 it was higher at 0.70. His through ball stats per game are quite low for someone of his quality & assist output.
Comparisons

Higher pass success rate than KDB (82.7%)
More tackles (2 per game) than KBD, Rodri, Kroos, Aouar
More key passes than Aouar, Modric, Kovacic https://twitter.com/goal/status/975492743664345088
Quotes

Pochettino – ‘Van de beek has a dynamic in the game, he gets behind Tadic, he arrives, he works, he scores goals.
Frank De Boer - “Dennis [Bergkamp] started talking enthusiastically about a talent in his youth team, who reminded Dennis of himself at that age.”
Destination

He looks to have the build of a Modric or even Rakitic both who played for top teams. I think Real Madrid would be a great choice, as he could be the long term successor for Modric. Ability going forward combined with his technical ability make it a potential move.
