Have been watching online poker very closely over the last 2 months with having a stable that& #39;s invested 10s of millions in this time, a role at one of the biggest sites + I& #39;ve basically played HS every day. I& #39;m 95% sure a huge financial crash is coming which will decimate us.
This Covid "opportunity" could have given us the chance for mini online boom but instead it is IMO going to be a long term disaster now. Previous very popular tournaments that initially surged are now overlaying. Example $530 stars marathon, really fun tournament.....
It used to get 200+ runners in February (I won it with 210 in its first week

Well yesterday, 100k gte overlayed by 40+ players even with a last minute 30 player surge. Money is running out and quickly..
Stables who have lower rois will go broke during this time, variance is so high and field sizes become tough when you get unlimited reentries. I consulted pp and suggested we remove as many games as possible and focus on quality. Over the last week or so people PM me complaining
That they want more tournaments during this time. But it is not sustainable.Sites that are currently having overlays have two options. 1) cut back and focus on quality, 2) follow the new gg system and have unlimited reentires to 10bbs. Imo they will go for #2 which will kill us.
Previously player would play tournament a on site X, bust then register tournament b on site Y, bust and then register tournament c on site Z. Now he just stays in artificially formed prize-pools and doesn& #39;t register the other tournaments. This means they overlay and sites react
I don& #39;t think sites will react like @partypoker have and focus on quality and restrict reentries ( @rob_yong_ even wants freezeouts but I continue to push for single reentry) taking out tournaments like $1k masters (weekly v popular tournament) because it started same time as WPT
Main event or the 9pm Fast at the same time as WPT Turbo that does amazing every week is exactly a bad short term decision (you lose significant rake money) but it is the right thing to do, both for long term economy + for the other sites!! If @partypoker wanted they could...
Simply change every tournament to unlimited reentries, leave every tournament in, run a $300m series, make infinite rake and not care. It would fuck every other site, and then stars would do it too, acr and gg would increase even more and then we all crash and burn.
party/stars are big big businesses, refusing this kind of short term rake, especially when there is no sports etc on is a huge thing. But if the marathon, Super Tuesday, Sunday grind etc continues to overlay I don& #39;t think we can just expect them to keep losing money.
They simply have to react and I don& #39;t see this going in a pretty way. I think sites will see that ok gg are doing amazing with reentries, board members and shareholders will press for unlimited reentry and then boys and girls, online poker is over.
IMO a poker union has to be established ASAP, there needs to be pros from stsrs, party, acr, gg and othe rmajor sites and it needs to be agreed what we as ambassadors believe will protect our game. We should hire the best poker consultants in the world who understand the finance
Once it& #39;s (if) agreed and understood that online poker is DYING not thriving during this time then it is the ambassadors job to make sure the site sees sense. Remember we are ambassadors for the players, not for the sites. Our role is to make sure the players are represented
Nobody should ever just be paid to just tell their thousands of followers that something is right when it isn& #39;t. I& #39;ll put on record now if pp went this route for all tournaments I would not remain ambassador as I don& #39;t think it& #39;s right and no money in world would let me do that.
Please please please think about what is happening and don& #39;t allow online poker to be destroyed like this. Players, ambassadors from other sites, let& #39;s unite and protect the game. It& #39;s our duty. Can podcast about this if anybody wants to hear more.
Btw I don& #39;t want it to seem like I& #39;m shitting on other companies or people. I just want us all to do well. I think so many people and sites in industry doing amazing stuff and I do want to give props to all the great stuff.
Gg has best software in world now overtaking stars, stars have the best mixed games that are so fun to play, Unibet/Grosvenor great local ambassador teams ( @daraokearney @dklappin Acr I think Phil listens and recent late reg improvements great! Runitonce doing the "right things"

Sad day yesterday with so many SCOOP events with big overlays. $5k had 80k overlay even though so many jumped in late. 530 $30k overlay. Lots of normal events overlaying. Bankrolls running out quicker than I thought :/ we& #39;re seeing the start of what I predicted.
I know that obviously I& #39;m not affiliated with stsrs at all, but it& #39;s sad to me because scoop was always everybodies favourite series, but not with unlimited reentry games everywhere people are losing money too quick / they aren& #39;t busting tournaments quick enough
For transparency I& #39;ve played every single SCOOP event this series.
