Car parks in the lakes are not just closed, they are completely blocked off. Toilets and other such visitor facilities are also closed. No one plans to have an accident, but if you unfortunately do, you’ll need a minimum of 8 mountain rescue volunteers to get you to safety (1/4)
More if you’re in the high fells. When carrying a stretcher we can’t social distance. MR teams around the Lakes have volunteers from all walks of life, while some of us are currently furloughed from our jobs, others are key workers and busier than ever (2/4)
So why I am telling you this? Because I know on the surface a day trip to the Lakes from Weds seems a wonderful idea. All that space, that fresh air, social distancing will be a breeze! Except things aren’t that simple. Where will you park? What if you have an accident? (3/4)
Help us, to help you, by giving our communities that bit longer to recover. We’ll welcome you all back with open arms when the time is right. Heck we’ll need you. The mountains will always be here.Stay alert, visit your local green space and save that day trip for the future!(4/4)
