Thread. Given that interpretations of last night’s Johnson announcement* abound today, here’s mine.

*less announcement more stream of consciousness
If you can’t work from home, go back to work. But if you’re a shop or restaurant worker you’ll not be able to because they’re still closed. So maybe just stand outside your place of work and hope you get paid.
Try not to use public transport to get to said work. Once you’ve tried not to use it, use it. Reduced services mean fewer trains and buses, so you’ll likely be packed on there. But staying alert and maintaining a 2 metre minimum distance will keep you safe.
The rate of infection is still too high to risk letting you out of your homes. But once you’ve left your home to go to work you can also exercise outside more than once a day. We encourage you to be outside, exercising, as much as you possibly can.
Controlling the virus is vital because 20,000 new infections are still being recorded daily. So we’ve handed that responsibility over to you. While you’re travelling and working and being outside all day, remember that we’re still in #lockdown and stay alert.
Test, track and trace is crucial in controlling the virus. It will need to be in place before lockdown is eased. It isn’t yet, so as we ease lockdown anyway please do stay alert while you’re all outside or we’ll have to reinforce the lockdown we haven’t eased yet.
We said we’d reach 100,000 tests a day and we have. Capacity to test and sending out home testing kits is the same as doing actual tests and getting the results for track and trace. What matters is the counting. That’s what will help you to control the virus yourselves.
This plan is very clear and full of common sense. So there’s no need for any probing questions @piersmorgan, @susannareid100, @Emmabarnett, @vicderbyshire et al. We are all staying alert, unless we’re in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, with whom we’re absolutely in lockstep.
Now stop reading this thread. You need to get out there and control this virus.
