someday there’s gonna be psychological studies on how using online fandom culture so seriously and aggressively negatively impacts your identity development and it just makes me really sad knowing that people so young are brainwashed into thinking this behavior is normal
i can’t even fully comprehend what vicariously living through an artist/group and crediting their successes as your own does to ones interpretation of the self or how it shapes their personality in offline settings
like i don’t even think adults understand fan culture/ online fandoms enough to even realize this is a problem which is so sad because it just ensures that it continues . like genuinely who do i talk to to get this on a cyber safety and awareness curriculum
like i just know that being online exposed to this culture at such a young and impressionable age is so harmful and is only keeping kids from learning proper conflict resolution because they’ve been taught to always be on the offensive and that it’s a good ,rewardable trait
i’m just sad because i know a majority of the people contributing to this are young kids emulating what they see themselves here online & i just wish we had more compressive internet literacy that also put emphasis on the emotional complexities of having online freedoms so young
