There have been quite a few “admissions consultant” websites pop up recently where current med students are selling their “expertise” to pre-meds. Please do not waste your money on this. Mentorship should not cost money. 1/ #MedTwitter #MedStudentTwitter
Just because someone got into medical school does not make them an expert on how admissions work. Their experience with success does not inherently translate into your success. Every person is different and their n of 1 means nothing. 2/
Ultimately, it would only make sense if they had admissions committee experience, but I am extremely disappointed to see numerous M1s at my school participating in this. 3/
If you want to help students navigate the admissions process, there are numerous avenues to volunteer your time. Otherwise, you are just doing it for the money and are only further perpetuating the socioeconomic disparities we already see in med school admissions. 4/4
This is unacceptable
Some people will try to justify it by saying “oh it’s just taking their rich parents’ money.” Here is a message I got from a friend who is a first gen student and works full time while going to school. These are the people who are feeling pressured to pay for this.
