analyzing ateez's dancing; a thread
im gonna go over this in general (choreographies, coordination + connection as a group), and individually per member (facial expressions, stage prescence, coordination, style + technique and overall)
i already made one for san but im gonna be doing his section again https://twitter.com/izsans/status/1252882048689172480?s=19
ateez as a whole is a group that has 8 strong dancers that have the potential to be part of the dance line without a doubt since they all have their unique style, meaning they're not only strong as a group but also individually.
each member has a different dance background, some didn't even dance prior joining kq and had to build off their skills from 0 to where they are now but ill get to that later when im talking about each member
ateez have been doing different dance styles since predebut, they don't have a certain dance style for their choreographies, since they're always switching up styles, this gives them the ability to not only show versatility in style but when they cover other choreographies they
can adapt to their style easily without having any trouble of looking stiff or looking awkward while dancing to something that's not theirs. some of the members learning contemporary will really help them have more diversity dance-wise and hopefully the choreographers will
incorporate contemporary influences to their choreographies in the future.
ateez also have a strong connection onstage, meaning that when they're dancing together they don't hesitate to do a movement and thinking "will ___ also do it?" "is ____ in the correct position?" they trust eachother to the point where there's no hesitation in their movements or
changes in formation, sure this is created from hours of hardwork dedicated to practice, but also it's pointless if the group doesn't trust eachother because they also know what to do in case of a problem in the choreography and they know how to fix it easily without looking
startled or doing something that will make the problem more noticeable. going back to the style diversity topic, ateez have had choreographies influenced by different styles, one of the most "known" style they've done is krumping (the hala hala choreography is influenced by it)
this takes extreme body control, powerful and sharp movements but most importantly facial expressions are a HUGE part of this since krumping is a dance that shows passion and raw emotions, it isn't just an "angry" dance, it's an extremely expressive dance that doesn't "sugarcoat"
emotions and it shows them exactly how they are, this is something many people tend to not know about krumping and often call it things that are extremely disrespectful to dance, you're basically calling a dance style that is based off portraying emotions with your entire body as
"looking crazy" so don't do that.
ateez's choreographies don't have an specific style as i said before and because of this, each member is able to adapt their individual dancing to the choreography, because they're synchronized the choreography looks as if they all had the same style when in reality they don't
they're only really synchronized, if you go and watch their individual fancams you'll be able to see their style, they each add tiny details that makes their dancing stand out or look different from the other members and that's what makes ateez a group of strong dancers,
they don't limit themselves to follow the choreography. they know the choreography, they do it but they're to the level of dancing where they not only do the choreography how it was taught but they also incorporate their own style while managing to keep the mood of the song and
be in sync with the other members.
here's an example of them dancing as a group, try to focus on each member in different parts and you'll see each member's style show when they're doing it, but if you watch it as a group they'll look the same
i also made this thread a while ago so you can see about their choreographies and their diversity https://twitter.com/izsans/status/1241507610605391872?s=19
