A thread of weird things that happened when I went to catholic school

The Jesus doll. Every class had a Jesus doll and every weekend someone had to bring it home. It was horrible

Every morning the fifth graders had to stand in the main hall (boys on one side girls on the other) and walk the little kids to class

I was shamed for not going to church on the weekends

When I was in pre-k my teacher told all of us little four year olds we were going to get coal in our stockings. She also gave us coal

Just if anyone is curious none of these are lies. This all happened to me

There was a band that would come once a year and perform a bunch of songs but the only one I can remember was life is a highway

We had no gym. So when we couldn’t go outside we had gym class in the church basement

There was a club only for 4th and 5th graders and the first day of the club some lady took us a to a basement and told us like church/religious horror stories

We also had a mail service which like isn’t weird but I worked in the mail service and I didn’t write enough letters so they threatened to kick me out

The principal yelled at me one day while I was walking to the bathroom because my gym socks were too short

There was also one guidance counselor for the whole school (pre-k -5) that came in once a week she was also the guidance counselor at the neighboring middle school

The boys and girls were not allowed to play with each other at recess

Every year on this one day in May the whole school would have mass and we would have to recite the rosary as we walked up the hill to the church (it looked like a scene out of cult movie)
