sexism and double standards in kpop: a thread

aka girl groups doing the same thing as boy groups only to be insulted and censored while boy groups are praised and encouraged
disclaimer i'm a girl group and boy group stan and i love every group i mention in this thread, these comments have nothing to do with any personal opinions i have, they're just observations about the differences in male and female idols, please don't take this as boy group hate
1. styling
female idols are constantly being given outfits that aren't appropriate for performances, outside performances like this one saw bts dressed in long-sleeved shirts, pants, and overcoats while red velvet are in sweaters and skirts with bare legs in freezing temperatures
styling continued
female idols are often given clothing that's too short and uncomfortable to both wear and perform in, joy wore this dress to a red carpet while male idols wore suits, while twice wore more conservative outfits joy wasn't the only one with a super short dress
styling continued
these poor styling choices not only make the girls uncomfortable but also subject them to an overwhelming amount of hateful and disgusting comments by netizens, this is what netizens had to say about joys outfit
2. choreography
girl group choreography has to be modified for being deemed to sexual for the air while only one bg has ever had choreography modified for being too sexual, exid's up and down had to be modified to to the hip thrusts but similar moves in exo's the eve weren't
3. facial expressions
girls with rbf are always harshly criticized and considered rude while male idols are deemed cool and mysterious, best examples of this would be jennie from bp and nancy from momoland to taehyung from bts and sehun from exo
4. variety appearances
momoland faced tons of criticism for being rude and disrespectful when they went on super tv, the girls acted in ways that were similar to super junior, shinee, and got7's variety appearances but weren't deemed entertaining like boy groups
5. personality
among male idols 'savageness' is usually seen as equivalent to being cool and adding to an idol's personality, for female idols 'savageness' is deemed being rude, jennie is told she's rude and a bully while yoongi gets told it adds to his cool image
6. company favoritism
for most companies boy group comebacks are favored over girl group comebacks with some exceptions blackpink has had two comebacks since the start of 2018 to now while ikon has had 6
company favoritism continued
pledis had both a strong boy group in seventeen and a strong girl group in pristin but while seventeen continued to grow in success pristin was pushed to the side only to disband
7. talking about feminism
many idols are known to be feminists including namjoon from bts and irene from red velvet, only when namjoon said he read a book by a korean feminist he was praised, while irene said she read the same book she had her merch burned and destroyed by fans
sexism within the kpop industry is so rampant and it's partially on us for allowing this double standard to continue within our own mindsets
