OK, @TransLink. I am one of your biggest fans. But we need to talk. Seriously, I spend half my time on Twitter telling people how great you are. So I hope you take this in the constructive way it is intended. (short thread)...
There is a bus top on Westminster highway right across from the Hamilton Transit Centre. stop 59555 I think.
As you can see, the bus stop is also in the bike lane. OK, not perfect, but there are lots of challenges for road space, and a bus stopping for a few seconds isn't really that big a hassle for someone on a bike.
However, lately I have noticed that there is almost always one or two buses staged there. Stopped. Engine off, sometime no driver. I assume it has something to do with the Transit Centre being right there and operations and yadda yadda...
This is a problem. Because a 2.5m-wide (?) bus parked in a 1.8m (?) wide bike lane on a road called "Highway" presents a real problem for cyclists. "Experienced Cyclist" like me signals, takes the lane, and grumbles, likely irritating a car driver...
But this is what I saw today on my sunny ride along Westminster Hwy, and it prompted me to write this thread:
