TS Syndrome, a thread:
so not many people know this about me, but I have a condition called tourettes that makes me have occasional tics like blinking or humming (it’s never verbal like the common misconception of tourettes.)
so not many people know this about me, but I have a condition called tourettes that makes me have occasional tics like blinking or humming (it’s never verbal like the common misconception of tourettes.)
I tend to avoid being in videos because I’ve had people stare and ask what’s wrong with my face when I start tic-ing in public and I’m suuuuper self-conscious about it. (once I had a friend with a girlfriend angrily ask why I was winking at him)
but today I FINALLY sucked up the courage and started my first stream on twitch and even when my tics got really bad, nobody- not a single person- said anything. and that was so appreciated, because oh man, it was OBVIOUS
tourette’s syndrome is very common- more common than you may think. as many as 1 in every 100 people exhibit mild to severe tourette’s syndrome. (yet medication for tourettes is given the extremely expensive “orphan drug” status that is reserved for rare diseases???)
so, in conclusion - love yourself enough not to let your shortcomings hold you back (something that I am learning) and don’t judge others because you really don’t know what’s going on (something I am also learning.)
