the discussion of game dev degrees is just "well you can& #39;t go to other countries unless you have a degree" as if class signifiers of human life are unchangeable material reality.

these businesses recruit people without degrees all the time, it doesn& #39;t have to be this way.
companies can easily hire anyone if they want to, they choose to mitigate risk because the process is expensive. it& #39;s an investment criteria not a human one people should decide their lives on.
to have a degree for the sake of employment and not education is a tacit admission you& #39;re willing to pay the price of viewing yourself as a commodity to gain access to class status and prestige. this is not what degrees are for, they& #39;re supposedly a measurement of interest.
"I went to school to learn about x thing, here& #39;s proof, so that& #39;s why I probably know a lot of x." you can do that with a resume, with your work, too. why is one more valuable than the other?

because one costs a lot of money.
that doesn& #39;t tell employers you& #39;re good at whatever you do, it just shows you& #39;re willing to pay to win or you& #39;re privileged enough to not have to worry about resources
a piece of paper that says "I& #39;m one of you, don& #39;t worry I won& #39;t rock the boat, doesn& #39;t matter if I& #39;m good"
this isn& #39;t to shun degrees, if you have one for the love of what you studied, good on you. just understand that companies don& #39;t see it the way you do.
