SO part of my mask-creation process was hiring cosplayers and other folks to sew masks but the other part was buying surplus "dead" stock from fabric stores and combining it with prettier fabric for masks, which results in these masks. Cute birbs, and, uh, Hermione!
A huge problem that fabric stores are encountering is that people only want the cute fabric, so when that sells out they're basically unable to sell anything for long periods of time - but they have TONS of fabric that's not as popular, or extra dead stock.
Since this is going to be the part that faces your mouth, it doesn't NEED to be cute fabric, which means I have purchased several, several yards of Snoopy dogtag patterns, Hermione, Ron, and some weird seashells lol.
But it also results in really hilarious mixes of stuff because managing which fabric gets which backing is too much effort when also managing 10+ sewists remotely, so it's like...

Snoopy + rainbows
Hermione + Halloween candy
Yellow Snoopy + spiderwebs
The sewists I worked for these were actually just across the street! With COVID-19, most of the alteration places in the area are unable to work (and ppl aren't getting clothes tailored) and so working with them to create masks has been super fun.
Ultimately this whole project has provided paid jobs/work over the last 4-6 weeks to 15 + different people and you get to buy cute masks!
If you're purchasing fabric and supplies to make masks, especially for yourselves or people you know, please look into the fabric that ISN'T selling for your lining or layering if the fabric store is out of what you want! They're in a very tough position right now.
