so today is mother’s day (my mom, pictured) and last night to celebrate her i put together a bit of a dinner

i started cooking as she got ready, and left a bourbon-thyme lemonade at the top of the stairs for her. i roasted mushrooms and more thyme while i prepped polenta for the appetizer
the appetizer was a no-stir oven polenta with mixed mushrooms and thyme from Bon Appétit. it was remarkably easy to make and came out exactly right. it was also super easy to make vegan for my sister!

The main course was a 9-hour sous vide skirt steak, finished in one cast iron while the other worked on a side of balsamic-seared broccolini. i made a balsamic glaze to finish the steak but it ended up not needing it!
for dessert, oat milk coconut ice cream and honeycomb toffee from mom’s favorite ice cream shop ( @MagpiesLA) topped with homemade chopped chocolate and cacao fudge
