For the hard of thinking:

As the rate of infection has reduced to a level that means lockdown can be gradually eased, this is how it is going to be done:

(thread)
1. A simple scale of 1 - 5 will be used to describe the level of seriousness of new infections, and the ability of the NHS to cope. With 1 being the lowest level of seriousness, 5 being the highest.
2. This scale will be used to communicate the risk assessment both to the public, and local authorities, to enable a coordinated response, if the situation worsens (infections increase) as lockdown is gradually relaxed.
3. The rate of infection will be closely monitored, and the scale will be adjusted accordingly. Advice may changes if the risk, as described by the scale, increases, or reduces, which will then allow further relaxation of lockdown measure.
4. So, having established the framework for communicating the level of risk, the Government says use common sense for your personal situation:

If you can work from home, continue to do so.
If you can't, and must go to work, maintain social distancing as far as is practical.
5. You are able to go out, take exercise, be outside for longer periods, but maintain social distancing.
6. If the monitoring of infections shows no major increase, and the risk level remains stable, or drops (remember that 1-5 scale), then further advice will be given as to what additional day to day activities can be performed.
7. The objective is to gradually reopen schools, beginning in June.

Other decisions will depend if the relaxation of lockdown does not lead to a sudden increase in infections.

And that, is it.
