People need to understand that there are no winners in patriarchal religion. There is no doubt that it oppresses women in horrible ways, but it also oppresses the GSM community. Most people don't realize that even the men aren't happy either.

The women are constantly put in their place by the teachings of the "umbrella of authority" and "just submit more and everything will get better", while men are told they literally have to be like Jesus - an impossible standard to achieve.

The toxic masculinity in the church is full of bootstrap teaching: Just make it happen dude. Be a man. Be mature. Be a leader. Be strong. Make good money. Always be at church. Read the bible/pray with your wife and kids.

There is no room for men in the church who aren't type A. If you're not an alpha you're expected to become one because that's the only model of toxic masculine leadership. Men with other personalities feel frustrated, always being told they have to be someone they are not

The sexual standards for men are impossible. Don't even look at porn. Don't notice women besides your wife or you're a pervert. Your wife has to be the most attractive woman on the planet to you or you're a deviant. You're only allowed be be vanilla.

All the while, the constant stream of communication throughout all "men's ministries" is that if men would just be good spiritual leaders the entire world would basically be wonderful. It's all on you.

So yes, there is no doubt that patriarchy enslaves and abuses women (many good things have been said about this), but it also enslaves and abuses men. There are no winners in patriarchy.
