This is a fact. On Gravity Falls we did blind reviews for our storyboard tests, meaning names were removed from submitted tests so we didn’t know school/experience level/gender/race/anything while ranking them. Hiring in animation really comes down to portfolio, attitude & timing https://twitter.com/oweeeeendennis/status/1259506688987557888
I’m not saying favoritism doesnt exist but on the whole TV turnarounds are harsh, fast & demanding. Animation skill isn’t something you can fake- if you’re not a good fit or cant do the job you won’t last very long, no matter what school you went to or whose best buddy you are
Conversely, you can be a complete unknown first timer with no degree or experience and if you match the style, hit the deadlines & are easy to work with, you can rise very fast. I’ve seen this more than you think. Focus on your work, not industry drama, and you’ll be rewarded
All that said, if you want to get attention of recruiters/ showrunners, you gotta be a SELF STARTER. POST your work online, pin a contact email to the TOP of your profile & say you’re avail! Showrunners are tired & busy- make finding/ hiring you as✨easy✨as possible for them!
