So I am rereading the whole series and wanna talk about it. Book one is insanely fast paced, and frustrating. Probably the weakest of the bunch honestly. It doesn't do what comes later much justice.
The scenes where they meet Elfangor were rushed into. Makes sense. They gloss over the literal murder of a homeless person super flippantly in that scene too.
I really liked how utterly traumatized Jake is after eating alive spider and feeling it moving and dying inside him lol. The body horror is always the best part of the series.
The ending is so abrupt it blows my mind, but its fun. Well, not for Tobias. But I'm convinced he did it on purpose. He's a kid tho, so being dumb and impulsive makes sense hah.
The lizard was also a crazy weird choice for the cover of the first book, arguably the most important for hooking people in? Why not the tiger, his standard battle morph for the whole series? Sad the covers were sp utterly divisive for this series tbh
