how did we get here?: a thread of the music that shaped me as an artist
APHEX TWIN:

this one should come as no surprise at all I don’t think. but if you listen to my drum programming, you know how influential he’s been on my music.
UNTRUE BY BURIAL:

Especially now that I’m moving into future garage territory, Burial is an artist that changed my way of thinking with production. Using softer, more ambient sounds to create some of the most stunning electronic music out there.
SINGULARITY BY JON HOPKINS:

Not a ton to say but it’s clear this style of dense dance music paired with minimalist ambient pieces has impacted my style of production lol
FLYING LOTUS:

I genuinely think he’s never missed. His layered, complex, and maximalist style of electronic music/jazz really opened up the possibilities of what electronic music could be for me. Truly one of the most forward thinking producers ever.
IGLOOGHOST:

My feelings with Iglooghost are largely the same as with Flying Lotus, except maybe minus the jazz. I definitely took the “go as fast as possible and see how many sounds you can balance together” mentality of a lot of his music and just ran with it.
DONUTS BY J DILLA + ENDTRODUCING BY DJ SHADOW:

These two albums really introduced me to the concept of taking a different song and creating something completely new out of it, changed my world forever.
JAMES BLAKE:

I feel like a lot of producers post 2011 have been impacted by the absolutely brilliant work of James Blake. I don’t even know how to describe how I feel about it but hopefully you know what I mean.
OIL OF EVERY PEARL’S UN-INSIDES BY SOPHIE:

Despite the chaotic industrial elements of this project, it has a very human and emotional impact on me. Even with a synthetic feel to the production, it still connects on a personal level. And that’s what I hope my music is like.
there’s more stuff I didn’t even touch on but this is a good representation of what lead to the production style I have now. hope u enjoyed this lol
