Some of you may recall last summer that we got into this very involved discussion of Sabbateanism, which was a false-messianic movement in the mid-1600s.

That discussion led to thread after thread after thread after thread, and the lingering sense on my part that I was circling the point but not hitting it.

So what follows is going to be a close reading of a book that touches squarely on the subject. It's a somewhat scholarly work, and pretty detailed; I will try to get to the most important points.

Right in the title you get the sense of the theme the author will develop. "The Mixed Multitude" is a Jewish concept known as "Erev Rav" in Hebrew. In colloquial terms, think of them as "fake Jews."

However, it's not so simple.

The "Erev Rav" were the Egyptians that hung on to the Jews' coattails as they were liberated from slavery. Traditionally they are thought of as our internal troublemakers; they were the ones who made the Golden Calf, for example.

However, some try to save them and others don't.

This will become important in a few minutes, but for now just know that the Frankists (the followers of Jacob Frank) were considered the Erev Rav by most Jews, while they called most Jews the Erev Rav (projection).

Let me stop and see if anyone is following this.

Not yet. That's OK.

So the book quotes from the Zohar, 1:25b. This is a passage that says that because of the "mixed multitude," basically all bad things occur; when God comes to redeem us, they will be destroyed.

Zohar 1:25b is frequently mistranslated by antisemites as something like "exterminate all non-Jews." But the passage is not talking about non-Jews. It is talking about something, or someone, completely different, and we need to do more work to understand this.

On the one hand, the "mixed multitude" appears to have existed BEFORE the Creation. The Zohar (which is Jewish Kabbalah or mysticism, received wisdom) says "and the earth was waste and void" -- they were the cause.

The verse is Genesis 1:2, well before Egypt and slavery.

In this version, we would understand that the first woman (L--, a demoness) married the head of the demons (S--), prompting hybrid demon-people to be born.

The second version of the "mixed multitude" as mentioned above is the version from the Exodus, the hangers-on, the opportunists.

The task here is to determine where the Frankists stand in terms of the "mixed multitude," (like are they an example of the mixed multitude), and also how they evilly used that language against regular Jews, to project onto them, reverse and confuse things.

Jacob Frank (1726-1791) was from Lwow, in the Commonwealth of Poland and Lithuania.

He claimed to be the reincarnation of Sabbatai Zevi (1626-1676) was from Smyrna, in the Ottoman Empire.

Why the Sabbatai Zevi/Jacob Frank episode of Jewish history is important.

1. Zevi perverted Judaism but many if not most Jews believed he was the Messiah, violating Jewish law.

2. When Zevi was discredited (converted to Islam), the movement didn't die but went underground.

3. Followers of Zevi were Muslim, but only outwardly. At home they were crypto-Jews (the Donmeh).

Some believe British intelligence recruited the Donmeh to found Wahhabism (today's radical Islam).

OK? So on the one hand you have Jews who have created a cultish, perverted pseudo-Judaism (Sabbateans) posing as Muslims working with the Deep State to generate radical Islam, a worldwide terrorist threat that departed from Islamic norms.

Put aside the Rothschild part for the moment, the Illuminati, etc.

4. Then, 100 years later, you have this guy Jacob Frank who claims to take up the mantle of Sabbatai Zevi, but who takes the evil even further. (We'll talk about that soon.) The Frankists mass-convert to (infiltrate) Catholicism.

5. The episode with the Frankists tears the Jewish community apart.

The founder of Hasidism blames the mainstream rabbis for alienating these Jews, who in his view could and should have been saved.

The mainstream rabbis are glad they're gone.

Everybody buries this memory.

6. The fact of the buried (intentionally buried) memory, plus the magnitude of the transgressions involved, the centuries-long drama, and the involvement of other religions, has an outside impact on the world today that has never been discussed in any Jewish class I've taken.

7. In fact I have never seen a discussion of this Zevi-Frank stuff anywhere, that is until I started looking for it, and then all of a sudden it was like a flood of scholarly literature sitting on a high shelf. Like family history that had some dangerous photographs.

"The Holiness of Sin" (1971) by Gershom Scholem is a lengthy essay on the Sabbateans and the Frankists. He alludes to the secrecy.

"in at least one case, A. L. Frumkin’s A Historical Account of the Scholars of Jerusalem (in Hebrew), the author goes so far as to 'acquit' some of the most dedicated Sabbatians of the 'scandal' of heterodoxy!"

So on the one hand, the Orthodox Jews don't want to admit how deep they got pulled into this thing.

They want to push it under the rug; it's shameful.

Hold that thought.

On the other hand, the non-Orthodox Jews (which is to say the influencers of 90% of Jews) don't want to talk about Zevi and the Frankists either, notes Scholem.

"Secularist historians, on the other hand, have been at pains to deemphasize the role of Sabbatianism for a different reason."

"Not only did most of the families once associated with the Sabbatian movement in Western and Central Europe continue to remain afterward within the Jewish fold,"

So do you see this?

The Sabbatean/Frankist influence has infiltrated each of the three major monotheistic religions.

And not a thousand years ago.

RIGHT FUCKING NOW.

8. The fact that such a tragic, deformative episode occurred beginning 350 years ago, and has spun and splintered into modern Jewish life, and has been ignored all the while, means that its influence has become MAGNIFIED.

9. For the religious community, it's created a kind of solemnity that does not make any sense. Unless someone, many years ago, knew that a lack of self-control literally drove people over the edge into craziness.

10. For the irreligious community, I think it's the fact that most people literally do not know how much their views are shaped by completely perverted thinking that passes itself off as Jewish.
