please know, on this day and every other, that if you have an abusive parent or parents, it isn’t your fault and you deserve better: they broke the ONE rule of parenting, which is that you’re supposed to love and protect your child, and that is on them and not you.

my parents will “never forgive me” for “abandoning” them and I’m okay with that because I will never forgive them for spending more than 18 years making my life hell and taking out their troubles on me, a child, and they have to live with it, that’s how it works.

I do believe in forgiveness but not when someone has shown you for literally your entire life they won’t change and don’t really believe they need to. I won’t feel guilty about their inability to be accountable.
