This thread will document me building an ecommerce business from scratch.

I will reply to it every day with updates and insights.

Buckle up.
I'm doing this because it's fun and because it is one of my passions. I love creating.

It could totally fail, but that's okay. Everything is a learning experience.

Here we go.
Today I bought a domain and registered a new Shopify account.

Next, I will upload a theme I created a few months ago to Shopify and tweak it to match how I want this store to look.
So let's talk product selection. This is the one area I put effort into before starting this thread.

I came across this product the same way I did with the business I recently sold.

I looked around on etsy, eBay, and other platforms until I saw something cool.
After a couple hours of browsing google, I found a tiny business with hardly any social presence making something similar.

I contacted them and asked if I could sell their item on a unit by unit basis. They answered yes and gave me a price, which was more than fair.
I was able to negotiate free shipping within the United States, which is a nice bonus.

They claim to not have any restrictions on order frequency, so that's good. We will see if that's really the case should things pick up.
They agreed to let me use their product photos, which are very average.

I will use those for now and if I find success, I will get proper photos taken as soon as possible.
So what is the product?

I prefer to keep that private for obvious reasons.

However, it is something that makes a common possession for many people a bit more personal.

An almost custom “upgrade” of sorts.
I published the theme, but it needs a few final touch ups.

I already made a store email via GSuite that allows me to have an website based email.

However, I still need to add a public phone number via Google Voice.
Phone number booked and added to theme.

I'm going to grind out the rest of the store setup and then list everything I finish in another tweet for brevity.
I have now added the following:

- Review app (Loox)
- SMS app
- My single product with all variants
- Facebook & Instagram Accounts
Next up is preparing ads for Facebook and getting campaigns under review so they can hopefully start at midnight PST.

Never start ad campaigns mid-day, it seriously hampers their effectiveness.

Schedule them to begin midnight the following day for best results.
My campaign structure will look like this:

- 5 ad sets
- 8 ads per ad set
- 1 targeting interest per ad set
- Ads will feature 4 different single photos with 2 different ad copies

Setting it all up now after I install my Facebook ad pixel on Shopify.
Ads are already approved and scheduled to run at midnight.

Ad spend for the first campaign at $100/day. Will let it run for a couple days and assess.

Will button up the site this evening the rest of the way.
Here are the numbers thus far:

Domain: $8.88
Shopify Plan: $29 (Billed in 2 weeks)
App Fees: $49 (Billed in 2 weeks)
Ad Spend: $0
Revenue: $0

Profit: -$86.88
