This Mother's Day I want to share one of the moments which changed my life forever. A little backstory: My mom is single since my birth, dad was never around and even though my mom had her family to support her, she took care of all of my financial needs by herself.
She's been strong and independent her entire life and naturally hates being vulnerable in front of people. Cut to my 2nd debate competition at school. Results are being delayed and the host asks if anybody would like to elaborate on the topic at hand.
To my surprise, I see my mom walking up to the stage. I smile at her and she turns to the audience and goes, "ASAK, I am Abdul Hadi's mom, I am a single mother. and i am so proud." and she breaks down right there. in front of the entire school. I walk up to her to comfort her
and as soon as a grab hold of her I break down too. The entire audience rises to applause. Mind you this is the first time she'd ever broken down infront of me, and the first time i'd heard that she's proud of me. We gather ourselves and she leaves. I couldn't leave because
the results hadn't been announced yet. I won First Place. For the first time in my life i'd won a competition. I called her up and she congratulated me and said, "I didn't embarrass you did I?" I said no but what i wanted to say was how much i loved her. but
i just said no mummy absolutely not. It was in the moment that i started viewing her not just as the strongest anchor in my life but as a person. who's held strong through the toughest storms of life. i have disappointed her countless times as a son and i know that i will
never be able to come close to repaying what she has done for me. my ReBeL lifestyle was always something she didn't appreciate. i wish one day i will have the courage to tell her how much i admire and appreciate her. If you have a relationship with your parents where you are
able to communicate openly about your feelings, please do not miss the opportunity to do so. please do not be the coward i am. This Mother's Day lets appreciate all the women in our lives. Happy Mother's Day.
