I’m spending Mother’s Day with my Vespa saying hi to places in SF I haven’t seen for a while.

Warning: Long, slow thread here.

First stop: Stern Grove.
An older lady with a cane sees me staring at the yellow Victorian in the grove.

“They rent it out for parties. The parties will be back,” she says.
Ocean Beach is pretty quiet.

Pro tip — keep your Vespa away from sand. 😬
I agree with @hknightsf and @peterhartlaub: Lake Merced needs some TLC.
West Sunset ball fields. My son broke his arm here after his first ever soccer game. (Further cementing his general dislike of participating in any athletic pursuit.)
The last time I was here I had just run Bay to Breakers. That was ... a very long time ago, I’m embarrassed to say.
The camera obscura has been on the list of things I should have done before. (Closed now, of course.)
USS San Francisco (17 battle stars, including Guadalcanal and Okinawa) and Lands End.
Never been to the VA before. I had no idea it was Art Deco.
I mean, I wouldn’t refuse to live in Sea Cliff. But there are some hedges here that put Danielle Steele’s house to shame. 🙄
There was a TV show a few years ago that had some time-jumping storyline and in one of the first scenes the star woke up here and called it Golden Gate Park. It still bugs me.
Traffic isn’t that bad, and I’ve always wanted to scoot across the bridge....
Good lord that was a stupid thing to do. Don’t ever do that.
Glad to see David Miles Jr back leading the roller skaters. ❤️
True story: When we moved to CA in 1999, I wanted to go to two places first — this corner and the @sfchronicle building.
