I thought the speech was actually pretty good - v serious and v heavily caveated. I also thought PM was a little emotional at the end. That said...there are a few obvious critiques...
1. There was no hint of an apology of any sort. Given where we are, at least an acknowledgement of mistakes made would have been helpful.
2. Scotland and Wales obviously aren’t ‘on board’. That’s a major problem and one that should have been addressed.
3. Why, why, why was everything leaked beforehand? There was virtually no new information and that just weakens the PM’s authority.
4. It’s all very good to talk but it’s all about implementation and the government’s implementation track record has been terrible.
5. Changing the emphasis (go to work if you cant work from home), is a very very big gamble.

3 possible outcomes

(a) No does - fail

(b) Everyone does and R/prevalence increases - disaster

(c) Everyone does and R/prevalence decreases - success
Will it, won’t it work? Who knows.

But the future of the government depends on its success.

PS This as well - the detail / preparation - perhaps it doesn’t actually happen given the logistics. https://twitter.com/duncanweldon/status/1259550341361778693?s=21 https://twitter.com/duncanweldon/status/1259550341361778693
