142 new deaths. This is getting worse, not better. Anyone who tells you otherwise has ulterior motives. https://twitter.com/sante_qc/status/1259534842896801793
My husband just wrapped up his first week in a CHSLD. It is a DISASTER. Chronically understaffed. Lots of volunteers with no training who have no idea what they’re doing, very few actually trained PABs, so the ones that ARE there shoulder an enormous work load.
He lost several patients this week. One lay dead in her bed for close to 10 hours before anyone came to remove the body. She had a roommate, who was very much alive. He broke down sobbing when he came home last night. I worry about him when this is all over.
Meanwhile our next door neighbours have their usual Sunday visitors. I’ve given up on calling the cops on them, it didn’t make a difference. The guy in the house next to them just spent half an hour chatting with someone in an SUV about 6 inches from their rolled down window.
This is only going to get worse as the weather gets warmer. And more people will get sick. And more people will die. My heart breaks for the underpaid overworked health care professionals who are on the front lines of this.
They are going to be forever changed because of this pandemic. And no amount of banging on pots and pans is going to help. They need to be properly compensated and they need MORE staff.
A lot of the seniors in the CHSLD my husband is at have dementia or Alzheimer’s. They keep wandering in and out of other patients’ rooms, congregating in communal areas. The staff does what they can to keep everyone separated but it’s impossible.
They barely have enough staff to feed, change and care for the patients, let alone babysit the ones that are wandering around. You wonder how this thing spreads like wildfire in our nursing homes? That’s how.
I’m sorry for ranting. We’re just EXHAUSTED & we can’t see our friends and family at all, even from a distance, because of my husband’s daily exposure to the virus. And y’all can’t even stay the fuck inside your houses?! It’s infuriating.
