392 spoilers!

a lot of people tell me that bokuto doesn’t seem like a virgo. thanks to chapter 392, we can finally see the full spectrum of his characteristics, and how they play out to the full extent of his character.

like all virgos, bokuto is hard-working. he is someone who hustles with routine and practice. HIGH SELF-EXPECTATIONS.
this is extremely evident in previous chapters. akaashi points out several times, that bokuto practices nonstop. all of his work pays off though. he’s the ACE.

in the early chapters, we only see a bright, cheerful side to bokuto. we don’t see the full spectrum of his character until 392. when fukurodani loses during nationals, he’s extremely frustrated. the first thing he does, is to put himself at blame, more than anyone else.

“to be able to hit any kind of ball is an ordinary ace”. in a time of stress, the one thing he is the most critical of is himself. his expectations of himself were high– he fails them, and is upset, even though he works the hardest.

bokuto is the essence of a virgo: practical, loyal, and self-critical. when he witnesses scenarios that could’ve changed under his power, he becomes unsettled. control is an important theme to virgos. he wants to know that he could’ve had the upper hand.

usually bokuto stays relatively enthusiastic when he makes minor mistakes. however, his cheerful demeanour is nowhere to be seen after nationals.
even when his teammates comfort him and reassure that is was okay, he is still unsettled.

he feels guilt, not only to himself for failing expectations, but also to his team for not being able to seize the national title.
even if he’s the baby of fukurodani, he is still the one that leads them into the battle. he feels as if he’s failed.

with failures, successes follow suit. after the loss, he works even harder. like earth signs, bokuto is stubborn. he refuses to only see what is in front of his plate.
he becomes the CANNON of msby black jackals. he shows incredible skills, not only through talent, but HUSTLE.

“i’m an ‘ordinary’ ace, after all.”

(so why is bokuto so optimistic, in the way that isn’t relatively “virgo-like”?)
it’s simple. his high expectations that he sets on himself were met.
virgo is also ruled by the planet mercury which makes them extremely effective communicators too!
