It’s literally my job to help recruit artists for animation jobs, & I’m also an art school drop out, so my two cents:
- I look at your portfolio first before anything else. I don’t care about your school.
- That said I do get sent to schools & it’s how I find some of our artists.

I visited the school everyone is talking about & I really truly adore the students there! They made their own very proactive SB club. They championed their fellow students (in fact this is how I met one of our CNS Academy trainees!!). That was all them. I’m so proud of them.

But hey I’ve also had a CNS Academy trainee that didn’t go to art school & I’m super proud of them too.
I can’t tell you if school or a break is a good idea or not. I don’t know your financial/personal situations. Ultimately it’s still “preparation + opportunity = luck”.

(I steal this from our Motivarti talk)
Opportunity + preparation = luck, you can control 50% of that (how much you prepare your portfolio & work for a job). You can’t control when an opportunity is coming your way, but if you’re prepared when it does, things just might work out.

I also know this is an oversimplification of a complicated topic...
