Liberal/left democrats have traditionally opposed the 1990a era of globalization and its institutions on human rights / labor rights grounds. But Trump embracing tariffs has scrambled a lot of this. And many Democrats are embracing the 1990s version of “free trade” in response.
I like internationalism, but I do not like 1990s-style globalization. Neither one is popular in a recession, for better or for worse. And I think it will be a serious political mistake for Democrats to even symbolically align themselves with the WTO in 2020.
