Until Kevin Durant says “I’m not coming back,” I believe he’s coming back this season.
The average length of time off for a player with an Achilles tear is 291 days. If Durant took the average time off, he’d be available March 19th. We are in May. It’ll likely be AT LEAST 60-90 days before game play could even start.
If he’s healthy and ready to play, I do not understand the argument of “well this was a throw away season anyway.” The team may have underachieved, but with Durant and no home court advantage for any team, the Nets could potentially steal a title.
PLUS: If they wait and the season starts in December, your are talking about 18-19 months without competitive basketball for Durant. Isn’t being away from the sport for that amount of time a risk in itself?
