Vix Lowthion, a teacher + former parliamentary candidate for the Green party, said she wanted to understand the govt's criteria for success with the trial.

“Is it the number of downloads? . . . Is it to test for glitches? . . . I am not sure what we are taking part in here" https://twitter.com/FT/status/1259524977541500928
"Residents on the Isle of Wight encountered problems with the NHS app during the trial that began last week, including some smartphone users receiving alerts that they had been in contact with people suffering from Covid-19, even though they had not gone outside."
"About 50,000 people on the Isle of Wight have downloaded the NHS app, out of a population of 141,000"
Teething problems include:

"1: People received alerts notifying them that they had been in contact with someone infected with Covid-19.

This was despite their not having ventured outdoors since downloading the app when it became available to residents the day before."
“We have a lot of old people. A lot don’t even have mobile phones" (and older people are at higher risk)
2: “Everyone I have spoken to, the majority of whom like me are keen to be part of it, has had trouble downloading the NHS app"
3: She added that "friends had also reported the NHS app was running down their phone batteries."
4: "The NHS app did not work on phones more than 3 years old that use Google’s Android operating system."
. @VixL *great* questions in your interview with the @FT! Do you happen to know how many people on the Isle of Wight have a smartphone? The article says that "about 50,000 people on the Isle of Wight have downloaded the NHS app, out of a population of 141,000". Thank you!
