Filled out an endless stream of forms.

Attended days worth of training.

Scrambled to save every extra dollar.

Placed ourselves into a vulnerable position.

We did everything we were supposed to do.

However, both times it came down to a decision.

A brave, selfless and sweet gesture.

A gut-wrenching gesture that puts complete strangers on the path to parenthood.

For us, it wouldn’t have been possible without a birth mom.

That one choice to let a couple she never met raise her child.

Parting ways with the miracle she carried and nurtured for nine months.

A choice that only a mother can make to complete someone else’s family while creating a hole in their own heart.

Each day, my husband and I don’t take that decision for granted.

Mother’s Day for us is 24/7/365.

Without that monumental moment, we’d be waiting. And waiting. And waiting for a child to come into our lives.

We did everything we were supposed to do, but in the end, it would have meant nothing without a mother.

Today, we honor the rock star women who make adoption possible — and those who sacrifice so much for their children, grandchildren and all the little (and not so little) ones in their lives.
