1. MLB and the players already had a salary deal, and players are PISSED the owners want to renegotiate it;

2. Players will be the ones risking their health and lives to play, not owners; and

3 . . .
And it is not certain there will be losses. MLB revenue is far less dependent on gate than ever. Plus, all restart scenarios involve expanded playoffs, which will lead to increased TV revenues for MLB.

If fan-free games were sure money losers, MLB would NOT consider them.
Upshot: on Tuesday, MLB is likely to formally demand additional salary concessions from players. If they stick to that, there is an excellent chance the players will not sign off on a deal for the 2020 season.
There will, 100%, be an effort on the part of MLB, its surrogates in the media and -- given how crap goes these days -- President Trump and others with a vested interest in an eyewash, false hustle restoration of normality to paint the players as villains. https://twitter.com/Jeanette607/status/1259517458370748417?s=20
