One thing that doesn’t sit well with me are people who don’t understand that expats move around for various reasons. Some it’s for adventure, career growth, change of scenery and there are those who are just chasing paper
You can easily tell by how each of these expats behave. E.g. someone who’s chasing money chooses to save and not spend a lot, while an adventure seeker is always traveling or out and about.
I personally moved because I needed a change of scenery and career growth. Of course I wanted money as well, but that’s not my driving force. Hence I’m able to rent an expensive apartment and not flinch because comfort is key to me and being able to feel at home away from home
I will NOT sleep on noodles just to save money, I will have noodles because I literally feel like having them on that day and that’s it. I’m privileged to send money back home WHEN I want to, but nobody is expecting me to
That’s mainly because my definition of rich isn’t based on how much money I have in the bank, but the quality of life I’m having. Yes quality life requires money, but in the same breath having money doesn’t automatically translate to living well
What inspired this thread are people who always question your every move, you order Uber “oh my God that’s expensive, why not take a bus” the list is endless
