2 years ago this weekend I found my birth mom! so I thought Id do a cute little thread about it. 1/
so mothers day is a weird weekend because my adoptive mom has passed away when I was 11, and I haven't seen my birth mom since I was 4 years old.
so mothers day 2018 I am being super emo lol and I do my yearly google search of her name.2/
usually I'm looking for an arrest article or obituary just something that would be on the internet. which is sad but I was pretty desperate for any information I guess so it never felt sad, and it never yielded any results before. 3/
this time tho!!! an article from the Hamilton paper about women who had been part of a project to find safe, affordable housing for vulnerable women in the city! she was pictured in the article. her name and age was right. I was born in Hamilton. I knew!! 4/
I had to decide if I wanted to reach out. But I soon realized that no matter what I needed to make contact because I may never find her again and also in the article it mentioned she had some health issues. 5/
so I emailed the writer of the article at the paper and tried to explain that I 'believe' that Tishia in the article is actually my mom! and I have been out of contact for 17 years. 6/
the author emails back after a few days, and she says she doesn't have Tish's contact info but she does have her case workers and offered to pass along my contact info if she wants to reach out. 7/
so I'm anxiously waiting all summer, and it was so stressful and lovely and a miracle and horrible honestly. I got emails every day that said "Clutter moved.." and I thought it was her every time. I worried she would disappoint me and I felt guilty for having expectations. 8/
She had a difficult life. She was a sixties scoop child to a pretty horrible man. she ran away at 14, had addiction problems–after we were separated she was homeless for a period. she has Hep C and heart conditions. she lost her best friend and roommate to cancer. 9/
she emailed back though!!!! she said that the news of my contact had shocked her so much she had gotten the flu, and had to recover. I remember @librarylova69 literally crying at the lib when I got the email. 10/
she is hoping to get her own place and a small dog💕 I was feeling kinda (pretty)sad today because I haven't heard from her since before Christmas. but I read through our emails today, I know I am in her thoughts and honestly I barely answer texts to my friends so🤷‍♀️11/
and here's a zoomed photo of her book case lol. I got the full photo like 6 years ago from her mom who had no contact after 2008, and today I just noticed that THAT is my school pic from 5th grade! 🥺🥰
and here's all the drafts I found from two summers ago bc I was nervous 13/13
