Imagine if you will hearing for decades that you are a racist murderer because you own an AR that you use to shoot at targets on the weekend, and then being told by the SAME PEOPLE that you need to shut down your entire social and business life for an indefinite period or ELSE.
Unless you are very online and relatively adept at research, what exactly are you supposed to think when a group that hates you is also inconsistent and manipulative for months on a topic?

The epistemic closure brought on by emnity fosters a reciprocal reflexive response.
You will never be able to figure out how to convince someone if you refuse to consider what things look like from their point of view because you’re terrified that your “friends” will shun you.

When you dehumanize a group or indeed all groups that aren’t your group, you lose the ability to treat them as people.
