1. Good morning and welcome to a special Mother's Day Edition of the Daily WH Shadow Briefing. Unlike @potus I'll say happy Mother's Day before I send 50 rage tweets airing every grievance in his life and apparently not missing his mom as much as he wants to attack his enemies
2. Putting that revealing characteristic aside, let's get right to your questions today. Q. It's a little striking that on Mother's Day, the President tweeted or retweeted 50 times within an hour before even acknowledging Mothers Day or his wife Melania. What's going on there?
4. Let's just say without getting into any of the specific tweets the President has an uncontrollable rage that he has to let out. That's what you saw this morning. It's a little sad, but at least he didn't start a war or anything. Q Can I ask about some of the specific tweets.
5. A. If you must. Q.The President wanted to draw a positive comparison to how Obama handled the swine flu. Was that smart. A. No it's the opposite of smart. The swine flu took almost 12k lives which was tragic for the deceased and their families. But one of the reasons the
6. the death toll was limited was there was an aggressive response led by the federal government that led a national testing regime that blunted the impact of the deadly flu. The President then did not leave it up to the states to figure it out on their own. He took
7. and showed leadership. @realDonaldTrump has done just the. opposite. He ignored the early warnings and lied to the public about the threat of the virus. He then said it came out of the blue and no one could have predicted it and finally repeatedly said he was not responsible
8. and blamed Obama for not developing a vaccine for a virus that had not been discovered yet. Worse he framed the response in the context of poll numbers as if that is more important than death toll. So to be clear 12k is a lot less than 80k and counting. And as President
9. Obama would say if Trump bothered to ask Obama for advice He would have heard it was a mistake to ignore the 69 page playbook for dealing with a pandemic. He would have said it was a mistake to disband the NSC task force on dealing with global pandemics that the last three
10. Presidents said were coming and he shouldn't have pulled the scientists he placed in China for precisely the same reason they were put there, to monitor what was going on in China in real time. So it's hard to understand why he wants to have this argument with Obama, but as
11. all know by now, he's not that bright. Q. There seemed to be a lot of things he wanted to get off his chest about the FBI and Obama's role in his relationship with the Russians. A. Yeah he's been on a bunch of fringe web sites instead of working so he's full of a lot of
12. theories this morning. Ignore him. Q. Was it proper for @potus to be promoting his golf course while he's still in the White House? A. Of course it is but grifters will grift. But in the interest of equal time I'm planning to use this platform to tell you that course sucks
13. It's like Trump, all gimmicks, no real substance. Q. What did the President get for his wife for Mother's Day. A. Nothing, he said that was his kids responsibility. He's not responsible for anything. Q. Why was @VP missing from the National Security meeting yesterday?
14. A. Because despite the negative tests, the President is convinced that Pence has the virus now. So he's not going anywhere near him. In fact he's told him to self quarantine for the next four years and Nikki Haley will fill in for him. Q.Did you notice anything wrong with
15. the picture from the meeting yesterday? A. Besides the fact it's all white men and not one person in the room was following the CDC guidelines on social distancing or wearing a mask, no didn't notice a thing. Q. There is a new study showing that if 80% of Americans wore a
16. mask, infection rates would plummet. Has the President thought about trying to model this behavior for the rest of the country. A. Yes and he thought it was a stupid idea. People should do whatever they want and have as many guns as they want too. Q. So @potus does not
17. not think he's a role model. A. Of course not, he's got some 40 women who've accused him of sexual assault and who knows how many have not come forward. He knows he's a disgusting human being who just takes what he wants whenever he wants it and never thinks about giving back.
18. Actually, when I put it that way, he probably does think of himself as the great male role model. And he's not wearing no stinking mask so get over it. Q Senior Advisors to the President say he's glum and shellshocked by his terrible polling numbers. Is that true?
19. A. Didn't you see his twitter feed this morning. Does that look like a happy, confident, content man. And one more thing, it puts to rest the phony poll numbers the Republicans are circulating saying he's leading in the polls. Those tweets are not from someone who thinks
20. they're winning. Q. The last four recessions in this country have come under Republican Presidents. Does the President see a pattern to this? A. He really doesn't. He sees himself as much better than those guys. That's why he wants a depression not a recession.
21. Q. The President tweeted that we now are in a "transition to greatness". So does he formally concede he did not make America great again? A. Yeah, that was kind of a slip of the truth. But I can confirm the President did not make America Great again. But the hats are cool.
22. Q Kevin Hasset said the depression he's predicting hit the greatest economy in our history. A. Well he's right on the depression part. But he's an economist and he knows the Trump economy was not the greatest in our history. Not even close. He inherited a strong economy
23. job growth slowed, economic growth slowed and now we're at 15% unemployment because he couldn't be bothered to prepare for the pandemic. But getting it half right is cool. That's it for today. Happy Mothers Day!
