I have things to say about the treatment of sex and desire in last night's Outlander, so if you don't want spoilers, look away.
I'm not sure who needs to hear this today, but not wanting to have sex right after a traumatic rape doesn't make you a coward. And sex with someone you love doesn't "fix" trauma.
Playing a song that makes a demonstration of love all about sexual desire and then makes sex the literal medicine for overcoming rape is a f*cked up message to send about rape and what that means
Making the resolution of a rape more about the men involved in the periphery is a choice that is odd at best and harmful at worst
There are people that will disagree and think that this was all very romantic and well done. Fine. But trauma, when it happens to you, is ABOUT YOU. Make sure to take the time and make the decisions that benefit you best- not the men in your life, and not your partner
The idea that you can power through trauma, by either blocking or banging it out, is neither healthy nor realistic. Give yourself time and space. Allow yourself grief. Allow yourself anger. Recovery is slow and inconsistent, but possible. It's not clean, but it's possible.
