I've been trying to re-imagine what anti-racism professional learning would look like for an education system, and none of the options can be completed in a day.

Some thoughts:

Thread 1/
Anti-racism PL should include:

- pre-learning/pre-reading to catch ppl up. We must resist always starting at step one & catering to those who know the least. Quite the contrary - those who know the least should be expected to catch up.

Thread 2/
Anti-racism PL should include:

- leaders admitting (this is called 'humility') that they're failing BIPOC students & staff, and that they have failed to meet their prior commitments for anti-racism learning & action. This is the truth part of truth and reconciliation.

Thread 3/
Anti-racism PL should include:

- a clear accountability (thanks @mskikeojo for always reminding us about this piece!) for what happens if they & their staff *do not* abide by the principles and action that they're about to commit to. Otherwise, it's all a charade.

Thread 4/
Anti-racism PL should include:

- 'outing' the barriers to this learning: deficit-speech that centre students & parents as the problem (rather that the system & educators), tone policing, silence, denial, and more
- let's name these predictable barriers from the outset

Thread 5/
Anti-racism PL should include:

An expectation that we'll centre
- voices of parents, students, and local community groups who have been advocating for change
- research & literature from local BIPOC authors and scholars who study racism in this geographic region

Thread 6/
Anti-racism PL should include:

- Yes, the informative/content piece, but also space to re-imagine anti-racist futurities in the educ system, ways to implement these changes, do it, & then reconvene to share practices/barriers. We need leaders to support changes too!

Thread 7/
Anti-racism PL should include:

Actionable commitment from leadership. Leadership teams need to:
- send letters to the MOE, demanding curriculum chng
- send letters to OCT, demanding better training
- admit how they have contributed to the problem & how they'll change

Thread 8/
Anti-racism PL should include:

Intersectionality:
We need to learn & disrupt how white supremacy is upheld by patriarchy, how white supremacy operates via colonialism and capitalism, and how white supremacy authorizes Islamophobia, heteronormativity, and able-ism.

Thread 9/
Anti-racism PL should include:

Facilitators that have *already* committed to the work, both inside & outside of the system. Ppl who are at the beginning of their learning are not ready. Come to the PL, help with the work, but admit when you're not ready to lead.
