clint, way back in the beginning, was sent to kill Natasha Romanoff by SHIELD. She had been getting onto their radar, and in no way in a good way after she escaped the Red Room. When Clint made it there however, he saw the human inside Natasha. He saw the potential and was like +

'hey! look, this is a woman, who hasn't know anything but killing her whole life. but she's worth saving.' and bam! Natasha Romanoff is not working with SHIELD, and learning how to use her training for good. Fast forward a few years to the first Avengers movie. +

They are /always/ so close. a little too close for good friends, one would say. look at how much Natasha cares for him. don't get me wrong, a lot of people care a lot for their best friend but, there was always something more implied in the way they were around each other. +
