cultures include a lot of different components and sub-cultures

cancel culture is more than just literally cancelling people
p.s. don’t read into this tweet any kind of support or affirmation of any drama going on right now, just wanting to remind folks that something can be a part of cancel culture even if it is not literally cancelling
what things could be a part of cancel culture?

- directly/indirectly fueling a mob-mentality
- enjoying/feasting on the situation
- dismissing people just due to their age, race, gender, sexuality, etc
- mocking
- going after uninvolved people who are related to the main person
- slandering
- decontextualizing words/assuming the worst possible interpretation
- devolving into jokes/memes
- perpetuating the distribution of “receipts”/screenshots after remorse or reconsideration
- harassing on all channels/threads even those unrelated to the incident
I have participated in many of these things and enjoyed some of them as a bystander.

I have also been on the “receiving end” of many of these things.

This thread isn’t a moral judgement on any of them—it’s an anthropological exploration of cancel culture.
