Art influences, a thread.

I wanted to share some of my biggest art inspirations over the years starting with an early one.

David Fairbrother Roe's cover art on Olias blew my mind as a kid and its been quietly influencing my art ever since/
Next, HR Giger. I love the kinky nightmarish elegant sophistication of his work. I tried to incorporate some of it into my dragons but failed miserably.
Roger Dean and Rodney Matthews come hand in hand in my imagination so they get a tweet together. Both huge early influences on how I thought about painting creatures.
Frank Frazetta popped up on my radar after I started seriously working to improve my skills. Just incredible in every way, love his Death Dealer the most though.
Ted Nasmith's illustrations for Tolkien's The Silmarillion are what I see in my mind when I think landscapes.
Staying with the celtic theme, Jim Fitzpatrick's art still blows me away and I still have his books so took my own photies. Knotwork for days. I was reminded of these recently by Mad Sweeney's character in American Gods. I remember. Sort of xx
Keith Parkinson's cover art for Weiss and Hickman's Death Gate books is another huge dragon influence. The fire dragon lives permanently in my mind and one day I'll do something remotely as good myself. One day.
John Harris' art blows my tiny mind. What he does with atmosphere and light and paint is amazing to me.
Okay back to it.

John Howe is a transitional figure for me. I only discovered him later through his Smaug illustration but fell in love and now I look to him for dragon inspiration ❤️
Geoff Taylor's cover art for Katherine Kerr's Daggerspell books lived in my imagination for years and I still have a huge soft spot for them. Love the celtic vibe.
I've neglected this thread but I think I'll redo it properly in order so thanks everyone who commented, hope you get something out of the new one too :)
