This is Boris Johnson’s Theresa May moment - telling the nation ‘nothing has changed’ about the lockdown when we can all see that it has changed https://twitter.com/alexwickham/status/1259442270576787456
The government statement re-states the guidelines of washing hands, working from home if you can, staying 2m apart when out, etc. So why have they ditched the old slogan ‘Stay at Home’ when on the face of it they seem to be reiterating the existing rules? If nothing has changed?
Meanwhile, the government slogan changes from red to green. ‘Stay at home’ becomes ‘stay alert’. The papers have been drip fed lockdown-easing briefings all week, while not yet issuing a public announcement. It’s as if they are deliberately sending a mixed message -
One that ‘nothing has changed’, the rules are the same, people should stay at home as much as possible (meaning only going out for essential things). The other, a subliminal message, a green light to the population to not to take the lockdown & public health as seriously anymore.
I guess we will see if the mixed messaging continues during Boris Johnson’s announcement at 7pm tonight.
