My advice 4 most people would be to spend some of this lockdown time getting used to watching TV with Closed Captions. A lot of times we find CCs annoying or distracting just because we're not used to them. Amir and I use CCs all the time at home and I barely notice them anymore

We don't always know when we will come across someone who need CCs. If it's a group situation and someone requests the use of CCs it can make them feel uncomfortable an alienated if the response is "I find them too annoying, can't you go without this time?"

Obviously this advice might not work for everyone, for example those with a learning or sensory processing difference. But I would encourage most people to give CCs a go. I might continue this thread with all the advantages I have personally found to using CCs as a hearing person
