Finished up Ys 7 in 23 hrs roughly on Nightmare mode finally.

Still a fun game 9-10 years later from my first playthrough on PSP, but it's interesting to play now paying attention to all of the faults I didn't see when I was like 13 lol
Writing is really conflicting where world is more fleshed out than its characters, where most of them are vehicles for the plot to move forward. Not the worst thing ever since they all have enjoyable personalities and the script is entertaining enough.
It kind of sucks when like I don't feel that Geis was utilized that well in his previous game (Ys 6) and they could have done a lot with the character, but he's instead relegated to being "some guy" in your party.

Most of the party is basically just... there lol
I still feel the gameplay holds up still in a post Ys 8 world, but PC version made it iffy for me where the 60 fps addition made bosses run their game logic faster than PSP ver's 30. There was a patch that fixed this, but ran through half the game without it lmao.
I think the biggest problem for me was enemy tell -> attack is nearly instant in Seven. Not sure if I should blame that on 60 fps, but even so it made a lot of bosses harder than they should be esp on Nightmare mode where I gotta be forced to block in some situations.
Rest of the stuff around the battle system (party building, item synthesis, skills) are fairly simple and work with Ys's gameplay pacing of "go fast".

This game is weird to play after playing 8 since like every aspect of 7 feels somewhat mediocre(8 is literally "better ys 7),
-but at the time of its release, what this game wanted to be doing was pretty fucking good and at its worse, it was an above average ARPG on the PSP library.

Hard to feel this type of way when playing Felghana or Origin.

game's good tho, just don't play it after playing 8.
Excited to go through Celceta though since I just happened to skip over that between 7 and 8's releases. Pretty sure I owned that game even before 8 existed lol

sidenote: the party ai fucking sucks in this game actually lol, none of them are able to dodge or block things
anyway play ys if you want very traditional jrpg fix but don't want to limit yourself to dragon quest or tales for those experiences
