what irks me about the hype surrounding Tamsin Calidas's 'I Am An Island': (a) Her failure to name the "remote" island on which it's set. It's actually the un-remote Lismore, in Argyll. (b) Her portrayal of the islanders, which seems divorced from reality. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/may/10/hebridean-island-divided-tamsin-calidas-memoir
What also irks is Tamsin Calidas's lack of curiosity or engagement with the island that she chose to inhabit (Lismore, in Argyll & Bute, less than 1 mile by ferry from Port Appin). @malachytallack explains these problems quite well in this #thread. https://twitter.com/malachytallack/status/1255848234720911360
