reason i brought it up is because i saw this thread on rich brian (lmao of all things),, a western k-pop fan tried to dig out dirt to cancel him because in the past, and when i say past i mean when he was 13, he used the n-word, slurs etc etc. i was kinda :-//////// but then i
learned that he never went through formal schooling and learned english on his own, through rap music. it doesnt excuse what he'd done, regardless of age, but it does make me realise i shouldnt jump the gun when noticing people's mistakes. and thing is, when he became famous
and learned that those things are wrong, he changed. so you see, it really is about education,, sometimes just exposure to things you might not have learned from where you grew up. i come from an asian country that's multi-racial and we're still learning to be respectful
of each other's differences. sometimes there are still lapses in understanding. the younger generation is more aware, but the older ones, not exposed to western culture, still fumble. can only imagine what its like for countries that are monoethnic, with little exposure to other
cultures.
truth be told, even i wasnt aware of a lot of cultural sensitivities until i made friends on stan twt who come from countries beyond asia!! so exposure is important, and even though information is readily available about these topics, i wouldnt have known to search them up and
educate myself if i hadnt been exposed to them first. so remember to consider a person's background and culture before you berate them for their mistakes. im sure we've all made mistakes. its the only way we learn
