After the thread on interesting creatures and HP=Krishna, i am back with another lockdown story fr ur kids. Can we imagine a story where Harry Potter universe was influenced by Ramayana too? As i was reading i did find some authors had already worked on this –

#ramayana #hp
but i have seen from my angle. I am also adding some scientific explanations and upakathas and interesting facts for the young inquisitive minds to show how beautiful and glorious our history is.

There are many more than what i hv mentioned.
Hope u like it
IF you think Horcruxes and such cool stuff existed only in HP universe – have some news for you

Raavana = Voldemort??

Both excellent students.
Both had multiple lives – Voldemort broke his soul into 7 horcruxes while Raavana had 10 heads and multiple lives.
These 10 heads can be broken down to either 10 vidyas wch he mastered or 10 sins/feelings extreme of which is very bad (chk the image - use this story for kids!).

#raavana #sins
Those who have read HP can remember how Voldemort had kept his soul as a Horcrux inside Nagini for safekeeping. Thailand’s Ramakien, written by King Rama I in 18th century has an interesting take on Ravana and his soul.

#horcrux #Ramakien #soul
Soul of Ravana was kept in an aviary which was kept with Goputra, teacher of Ravana. Hanuman and Angada brought the aviary and Rama could kill the demon.

300 versions of Ramayana exist, many outside India. Ramakien (Glory of Rama) which is the National epic.
Thai version was compiled by King Rama I. He has also built Wat Phra Kaew temple (i hope to travel there one day) which is decorated with Ramakian story murals. Those who want can read Ramakien - to understand how a story changes to suit the geography n population
HP fans remember Chamber of secrets and Basilisk attacking Harry and Fawkes - the Phoenix coming to the rescue. In Ramayana battle when Meghnad/indrajit uses Nagapash on Rama and Lakshmana and both are wrapped up by million snakes, its our Garuda deva who comes to their rescue.
A small story abtIndrajit - he is considered to be a Atimaharathi (the only in Ramayana) - class of warrior who can fight 12 maharathis at same tym. He is the only one to possess a trifecta of astras - Brahmastra, Vaishnavastra and Pashupatastra. He even deafeated Rama

#indrajit
He even defeated Indra. Being such a brave warrior - he was on the wrong side of dharmayuddh. It is a moral for all youngsters - it does not matter if you are pure, the person or company u r backing needs to be pure too otherwise you will lose too.

#dharma
In HP 7th book - Harry, Hermoine n Ron embark on a journey and have many encounters. In Ramayana - Rama, Sita and Lakshmana too go for Vanavas. Although in HP - Harry leaves Ginny behind, here Lakshmana leaves Urmila behind to go with Rama. But both provide interesting narratives
The wand of Harry has a great significance in the HP universe where wands plays a important role. Both Harry & Voldemort's wands share a story. We have Rama and Ravana in Sita swayamwara coming together to lift the Pinaka (Shiva dhanuss).
If you study Ramayana – similarly Rama’s weapon and Raavana’s bow are legendary. Both Harry's wand & Pinaka in Ramayana get broken.

Ollivander is legendary wand-maker in HP universe, similarly we have Vishwakarma in Hindu mythology who is known to have made Pinaka and Sharanga
Snape vs Vibhishana
In HP Snape was originally a Death eater on Voldemort's side but joined Dumbledore & helped in bringing down Voldemort. Similarly although Vibhishan was Raavan's brother - he joins Rama after not agreeing with Raavan's adharma.
#snape #vibhishana
Snape helps in bringing down of Indrajit by advising Laxman and also tells Hanuman about Sushena who identifies Sanjeevani and saves Laxman.
You can teach your kids about righteousness from the story of Vibhishana.

#moral #righteousness #vibhishana
Inspite of being a Demon - he chooses the side of Dharma - the moral to take away from this story is - does not matter what background you come from, if your intentions are good and noble - you will always succeed.
Hogwarts vs Gurukuls
Similar to Hogwarts we had Gurukul system of schooling and had teachers like Vasishta and Vishwamitra. The subjects like Herbology, Defense against Dark arts, Astronomy, Flying and much more are taught in Ramayana too.

#hogwarts #Gurukul
Animagi in Ramayana
We have Maaricha who turns into a golden deer and helping in the abduction plan of Sita. There is also a rakshasa Vatapi, brother of Ilvala who could change into goat and kill poor travellers. He was killed by Maharishsi Agastya..
Even Raavan and Shoorpanakhi are known to have the ability to change their appearance similar to Tonks of HP (metamorphomagi)
Just like we had Hagrid a half-giant born to wizard and a giant in HP, we have Kumbhakarna born to Rishi Vishravas and Kaikesi who hailed from the demon family (her father was a demon but mother a Gandharva).

#hagrid #kumbhakarna
Herbs in HP n Ramayana

in Harry Potter we had Mandrake juice administered to cure basilisk poison. In Ramyana Sushena applied Sanjeevani plant extract to cure the posionous effect of Indrajit's astras on Lakshmana.4 herbs are important medicine in Ramayana -

#sanjeevani
Mrita sanjeevani (which brings the dead back to life), Suvarnakarani (restores the body), and Sandhani (joins severed limbs and fractured bones) and Vishalyakarani (cures all wounds)

Apart from this in Aranyakanda 73rd sarga, Matanga rishi mentions 21 trees hvn vmedicinal value.
Interesting story about the search for Sanjeevani in real. Researchers on the basis of description of the herb from Ramayana finalised 3 plants to be closest to Sanjeevani - Selaginella bryopteris, Cressa cretica and Desmotrichum fimbriatum (from Dr. K.N. Ganeshiah paper).
Only Selaginella grows in Aravalli mountains and may be the legendary Sanjevani.

Finally, my only intention is to find interesting aspects in our puranas and Hinduism and bring it to you.

They have so much of information - provided you search.

I hope u like it.

If i hav made any mistakes - let me know.
I do not wish to hurt any sentiments.

#Ramayan
Also wanna add that Ramayana although written thousands of years back is highly detailed and accurate about Indian geography..

It is a MARVEL and a Guide!

Hoping that more youngsters and parents make use of it and teach our new generation of the importance of Ramayana 🙏
